Kawasaki special agricultural bikes for the Australian market.
Starting in 1974 Kawasaki took some of their existing models and did some re-designs for specialty use cases. One of these specialty markets was the agricultural market, specifically for the wide expansive farms in Australia. These "AGI" bikes as they were known, were existing models retrofitted & modified slightly with some extra equipment specific to farming & ranching. Models ranged from 100cc-250cc in both 2 and 4 stroke engine configurations. Rumors also state that these were popular in South Africa (citation needed).
Most of the modifications came in the way of bolt on extras. Some of these would include; larger fenders with mud flaps, front & rear luggage racks, shovel or other hand tool holder, headlight and tail light guards (to prevent breakage), "bark buster" style hand guards, heavier engine skid plates, automatic chain oilers, fully enclosed chain guards, as well as a dual kickstand with a large foot print for soft soil. These bikes sometimes also featured minor revisions to performance. For example; The KV250 A series (KLR250cc 4 stroke engine) features an internal balance shaft to smooth power delivery and increase tractable power at lower speeds.
The spiritual successor to the KV250 AGI is the Kawasaki Stockman 230 which is based on the (discontinued) Kawasaki Super Sherpa and KLX230.
Below are the common models that were available. If you have more information about the specific differences of the "agi" bikes versus their "regular" counterparts contact me.
